Who we are
buildingSMART UK and Ireland (bSUKI) is one of the national chapters of buildingSMART, the worldwide authority driving the transformation of the built asset economy. buildingSMART plans to achieve this through the implementation of open Building Information Modelling (BIM) through the creation & adoption of international standards.
As per it’s Vision and Mission, buildingSMART is an open, neutral and international not-for-profit organisation.
What we do
buildingSMART drives the development and active use of open internationally-recognised standards, tools, training and certification regimes to support the wider uptake of open BIM through a series of Core Programs.
Through buildingSMART a number of standards have already been developed based on open BIM, such as Industry Foundation Class (IFC) an open data format, Information Delivery Manuals (IDM) an open data process, and buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) formally the International Framework for Dictionaries (IFD) an open data ontology.
Developments such as the standards citied above are coordinated by buildingSMART through a series of Rooms. Rooms form and support working groups and/or project depending on the nature and scale of topic being addressed. a number of rooms pursue open data research into developing tools and training to aid the industry.
